Prayer Services

Congregation Jeshuat Israel holds religious services in Touro Synagogue and the Levi Gale House. All services and religious activities are under the direction and supervision of Rabbi Stephen Belsky.

What to expect at Services in Touro Synagogue

Services are held year-round on Friday nights, Saturday mornings, and all Jewish holidays.
Services are orthodox with separate seating for men and women. We use the ArtScroll Nusach Sefard prayerbook. Members and guests of all types of Jewish observance are welcome. Touro Synagogue does not regularly hold weekday services, but they may be arranged with advanced notice. For more information on services, please contact Rabbi Belsky at 401–847–4794 ext. 203 or email him at Rabbi.CJI@tourosynagogue.org.

Please dress appropriately.
When coming to the synagogue for Shabbat and holiday services, men must wear long pants, although ties and jackets are not required. Women may wear slacks. For weekday services, casual attire, including shorts, is permitted. No sleeveless or torn clothing is allowed at any time. In all cases, clothing should be appropriate and discreet for worship. We reserve the right to determine appropriate attire.

Please turn off cell phones before entering the synagogue.
Using electronic devices on synagogue grounds during Shabbat or Jewish holidays is not permitted. No photography or cell phone use is allowed at any time during services.

As a safety/security precaution, all men, women, and children are subject to be electronically scanned before entering synagogue grounds.
No bags, backpacks, boxes or packages are permitted on synagogue grounds.

Using the Eruv.
Due to ongoing maintenance of power lines in Newport, the eruv is NOT currently functional. We hope to reconstruct the eruv as soon as possible, for the benefit of both locals and visitors.

For further information, contact Rabbi Belsky at 401–847–4794 ext. 203 or email Rabbi.CJI@tourosynagogue.org.
